Cetra Records has been in gradual evolution for decades, its first seed planted over 50 years ago, and its first sounds surfacing in the early 2000s. Cetra is a record label and publisher that is on a mission to record, preserve and promote the cittern and its music.

Vision and Values

To record music alongside some of the most talented artists in the world in an effort to preserve and divulge the unique sound and music of the cittern.
To preserve an important piece of musical history by way of recording, archiving and providing educational resources on the cittern and its music.
To promote the cittern within its niche audience but also to reach broader audiences of those that might not be aware of its tradition.

Our Mission

Cetra Records was born from a passion for the cittern as an important piece of cultural heritage. Our mission is to record, preserve and promote the cittern and its music. We are formal, yes. (A formal nature is hard to avoid with anything coming from the 16th-18th centuries.) However, we also aim to embody the sprightly and cheerful nature of cittern music in our music and messaging. While Cetra Records pulls from timeless classical tones that could be identified centuries ago, it also celebrates an openness and freedom inspired by the 1960s.
